After a few months off the saddle (here’s looking at you, Christmas season), this was tough. The average times for the third and fourth splits confirm that I was pretty much coasting along.
The victory and the success came from the completion. I will worry about the times and comparing myself to the half-marathon concept 2 leaderboards later.
I will also have to recognise that a target of doing a half-marathon weekly is not doable now, as there will have to be an adequate recovery time.
So I’ll readjust the goal to a minimum of one half-marathon every three weeks, and ideally every two weeks.
If there’s one thing I have learned from previous endurance indoor rowing efforts, it’s to always leave something in the tank by the end of the session. This ends the session on a positive, can-do note.
Exercising to exhaustion (at least for me) leads to terror and avoidance of subjecting myself to further punishment. Procrastination sets in, and a few weeks becomes a few months, becomes a few years (My next post will be on my first ever experience on the indoor rowing machine).
Perhaps a rule for life: to try to end every task, every interaction, every day at school/work, and every night before sleep, on a positive note.
